Chamber supports three parish tax proposals

As an economic development organization and the only chamber of commerce representing Livingston Parish, the Chamber today voices support of the detention center and the two school tax proposals on the April 9^th ballot. 

“While it is always tough to endorse any tax, particularly in these times, the economic impact to the parish and investment in the future of the parish weighed more heavily in the decision.  As a business organization, the chamber recognizes the positive impact that education has on the business community,” states Brian Abels, Chamber Chairman of the Board. 

The renewal for the Florida Parishes Juvenile Detention Center has been supported by many of the local chambers in the region served, and this chamber joins in that support.  “The facility and its operations follow a best practices model.  Having a location specific to juvenile offenders fills a need from the local jurisdictions, including Livingston Parish, and the offices that utilize these services, “states April Wehrs, Chamber President. 

The Livingston Parish Chamber of Commerce service area is the entire parish of Livingston.  The chamber currently serves over 520 members representing nearly 20,000 employees.  The chamber is a non profit corporation privately funded through its business and associate members.  The chamber approaches its 50 year incorporation anniversary this year, although form nearly 100 years ago.  For more information contact the Chamber at 225-665-8155 or visit the website @ www.livingtonparishchamber.org.
