Judge Blair Edwards of the 21st Judicial District Court and Lori Steele from the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office will keynote at the second annual Livingston Parish Chamber of Commerce’s Women’s Leadership Event on Sept. 20 at Forrest Grove in Denham Springs.
Judge Edwards is a child advocate, attorney, wife, mother and judge. She is the former Executive Director of the Ginger Ford Habitat for Humanity and received the CASA Judge of the Year award in 2016.
Steele is the public information officer for Livingston Parish Sheriff, Jason Ard and an organ donor activist. She hosts “The Gifted Life” podcast for the Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency and mentors LSU public relations students.
In addition to presentations from Judge Edwards and Steele on topics of relevance to businesswomen, the event will also feature a “Women’s Expo.” Seven exhibitors will be on site to network and provide information on topics important to women including healthcare, finances, stress management and more.
The Livingston Parish Chamber will also present the Women’s Leadership Awards to impactful women selected by out of state judges at the Women’s Leadership Event. The awards will go to women who have contributed positively to Livingston Parish and are leaders in their respective fields.
The first Women’s Event in 2017 sold out. The initiative of the Livingston Parish Chamber of Commerce to support and highlight the leadership of women, especially businesswomen, resonated with the community. “We wanted to highlight all of the positive ways that Livingston Parish is shaped by women,” said Chamber President and CEO April Wehrs, “as well as provide an opportunity for development through great speakers and information. That’s where the Women’s Leadership Event comes in.”
Registration for the Women’s Leadership Special Event is open on the Chamber’s website.
